Resurgence, Shadow of Sacrifice, Part 5
Part 5: Resurgence
Months turned into years, and Janet transformed her pain into strength. She graduated with honors in Theatre Arts, her talent and dedication recognized by professors and peers alike. She began working in the industry, landing roles in plays and eventually making a name for herself. Her performances were hailed for their emotional depth, a reflection of the pain and resilience that had shaped her journey.
One evening, after a successful performance in Lagos, Janet received an unexpected visitor backstage. She turned to see Seyi, standing awkwardly by the door, his face etched with an expression she hadn’t seen in years—a mixture of regret and uncertainty.
“Janet,” he began, his voice faltering. “I… I heard about your success, and I wanted to congratulate you.”
Janet looked at him, her heart calm for the first time in years. She felt no bitterness, no anger—only a quiet sense of closure.
“Thank you, Seyi,” she replied, her voice steady. “I appreciate it.”
Seyi shifted uncomfortably, as though searching for words. “I… I know I hurt you. I was foolish, and I didn’t realize what I had. I’m sorry, Janet. I truly am.”
Janet studied him for a moment, then offered a small smile. “Seyi, I loved you once. I gave you everything I had, but you made your choice. And I made mine.”
With those words, Janet turned and walked away, leaving Seyi standing alone, a distant figure from a past she had long since outgrown.
